What We're About

Our Goals

  1. Convince Sutter Health to reopen the Mickelson Center therapeutic pool or reimburse the community $7.2 million – the amount donated by the community (in today's money) to build the facility
  2. Work with local entities to create new private or civic-run warm water facilities
  3. Collaborate with other local aquatic facilities with moderately suitable accommodations to make their indoor pools available for therapeutic use
  4. Educate legislators and the community at large of the need for warm water therapy facilities to accommodate the growing number of seniors and disabled individuals.

Why Warm Water Wellness Inc was Created

Warm Water Wellness Inc was born out of a need to advocate for the reopening of The Mack E. Mickelson Arthritis and Rehabilitation Center at Mills Health Center in San Mateo. This important, well-used and much beloved community resource is a fully accessible facility that was entirely financed by $4 million in community donations over 25 years ago.

Citing the worldwide COVID pandemic, Sutter closed the Mickelson Center in March 2020 and permanently closed the facility in 2021. Sutter has shown a lack of transparency while offering shifting explanations for their decision to make the closure permanent.

Who We Are

In October 2021, a small group of former pool users and supporters joined to advocate for the reopening of the Mickelson therapy pool and the construction of additional pools. WWW Inc received its IRS determination letter as a public charity in April 2022.

A petition on change.org calling for the reopening of the Mack E. Mickelson Arthritis and Rehabilitation Center in San Mateo was started in June 2021. It has more than 4,800 signatures as of October 2022.
