Warm Water Wellness Inc was born out of a need to advocate for the reopening of The Mack E. Mickelson Arthritis and Rehabilitation Center at Mills Health Center in San Mateo. This important, well-used and much-beloved community resource is a fully accessible facility that was entirely financed by $4 million in community donations over 25 years ago. Citing the COVID-19 pandemic, Sutter closed the Mickelson Center in March 2020 and permanently closed the facility in 2021.
Following a change in leadership and a paradigm shift in mindset, Sutter Health invested $1 million in renovations to the pool and reopened the facility for both aquatic physical therapy and community use on August 20, 2024.
In October 2021, a small group of former pool users and supporters joined to advocate for the reopening of the Mickelson therapy pool and the construction of additional pools. WWW Inc received its IRS determination letter as a public charity in April 2022.
